How to reach your goals with a shovel

Reaching goals is simple…painfully simple.

I assume that I must be a slow learner because God seems to keep teaching me the same lesson in different ways.  Today, he used a shovel.

I’ve got things I want to do in life.  I have spiritual goals, physical goals, ministry goals, financial goals…goals of all sorts.  The frustrating thing is that they don’t just happen.  They take time…they take work…sometimes it seems like they will never happen.

What do you want to do?  What goals do you have?

God reminded me how it works today.

I had a simple project.  Dig a two feet deep, one hundred and twenty foot long trench from my house to my pole barn to run an electrical service.

Like I said…simple…painfully simple.

How do you dig a hundred and twenty foot long trench?

One shovel at a time.

As I started digging, the task seemed daunting.  120 feet seems like a long way with a shovel in your hand.  For a long time, it doesn’t seem like you are getting any closer even though you are sweating and your back hurts.

Most of the goals that we chase after are like that.  You start in…you try…you hope, but the distance between here and there can become overwhelming.  It’s easy to give up.

The key is to put your shovel in the dirt and continue putting your shovel in the dirt.

If you want to lose 25 pounds, you have to lose one and then do it again.

If you want to become a person of God’s Word, you have to read a chapter and then do it again.

If you want to write a book, you have to write one chapter and then do it again.

If you to become a righteous person, you have to obey God today and then do it again.

What do you want to do?

Change isn’t easy.

Growing isn’t easy.

Reaching goals isn’t easy, but it is simple.

Put your shovel in the ground and then do it again.

Where do you need to put your shovel in the ground?

God has been teaching me this in a number of different ways.  You can find a couple other examplesand here.  If you are not receiving all my posts in your email, please sign up in the upper right corner.
